Performance PHYX

The focus on Performance includes that of the International IRONMAN Competitor, the amateur athlete, the maintenance of an aggressive wellness program, the prevention of the decline incorrectly associated with aging and the recovery of optimal function after illness or injury.

Performance Phyx

In my long career as a physical therapist treating mechanical problems in the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system it never ceases to amaze me how easily people will accept taking medicine, getting injections, having screws and plates and new joints put in their body….. exposing themselves to massive amounts of anesthetic, medications, bed rest, physical therapy and loss of a huge chunk of time out of their life along with the very real possibility that they will not be able to return to the activity the pain caused them to abandon!!!  And ignore the mechanical problem.

Or, just give up an activity because a doctor told them too!!  And ignore the potential mechanical problem.

Or, because of the declines associated with aging, easily accept the use of a cane or those horrible three wheeled walkers, as their only way to keep moving.  These devices can cause more problems. Understand that I have no problem with assistive devices when necessary to maintain safe mobility and independence. My problem is when they are used without the appropriate exercise to maintain and potentially improve alignment, strength and balance. And decline happens!  Because the potential mechanical problem was ignored.

Performance Phyx™ focuses on these, plus many more, unidentified mechanical problems that cause the following symptoms:

Symptoms caused by Mechanical Problems include:

  • Pain:  shoulder pain, back pain, carpal tunnel pain, hip, knee & foot pain.
  • Decreased Performance on the Golf Course, at the Gym, Biking, Running in the Marathon
  • Increased Fatigue
  • Loss of Function, including balance, pain going up steps or walking, standing or even sitting at the computer
  • De-activated Core caused by poor alignment
  • Unsuccessful treatment for pain/symptoms attributed to a diagnosis such as Prosthetitis could have an unidentified mechanical component, eg, entrapped neural tissues.  Entrapped nerves are frequent causes of mechanical problems that are not identified.

What does Performance Phyx do?

Performance Phyx treats mechanical problems to restore:

  • Good Alignment.
  • Full range of movement.  Extreme workouts, such as CrossFit, take you to the end range of movement.  Pain happens when movement faults exist that prevent the needed full range.
  • Performance Phyx finds the mechanical problem and treats it as opposed treating the consequences of mechanical problems causing symptoms. It is about correcting the mechanics first and then re-evaluate to determine if more treatment is indicated.
  • Performance Phyx improves the nervous system’s ability to accommodate movement.  A good example of the movement the nervous system has to accommodate is the golf swing.
  • Performance Phyx activates the core. It is about turning on the core!  And then challenging it. You can have the strongest core but if it is deactivated it is not working, not doing what it is supposed to do to maintain alignment.
  • Performance Phyx focuses on Good Balance.  Drawing attention to the central nervous system, it is about turning on a deactivated balance mechanism to maximize the benefits of balance exercises.  It is about addressing the visual and vestibular components of balance.
  • Performance Phyx emphasizes a commitment to an ongoing exercise program to increase and maintain wellness and addresses the problems, new and recurrent, that threaten this essential exercise program.

More stretching, more running, more strengthening, more rest, more of the same, are not the solution.  They have not worked! The solution:

Performance Phyx will address many unidentified causes of symptoms that threaten Performance.

It is important to keep in mind that the causes of the listed symptoms are not necessarily related to a given diagnosed cause of the symptoms….no matter what the MRI, C Scan or X-rays say!

The problems that arise when their causes are not correctly identified are:

  • Function is lost
  • The decline begins.
  • It is attributed to age:  40+ 50+, 75+
  • Recovery does not happen.
  • Exercise routines are modified and eventually abandoned.
  • Medication increase.
  • Loss of energy increases. “My game falls apart at the 10th hole”.
  • Pain persists:  shoulder pain, back pain, carpal tunnel pain, hip, knee & foot pain
  • Medication increases.
  • Ongoing treatment is focused on the same problem but more aggressively: Injections, Surgery for heel spurs, arthritis, joint replacements, knee meniscus, back and neck stenosis or disc with the regrettable fusion.
  • Function is lost
  • The exercise routine abandoned

It is important to add this here:

Heaven forbid that you have been diagnosed with a specific disease, eg, Prosthetitis that is not responding to medications, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Parkinsons, Multiple Sclerosis, Peripheral Neuropathy, “Bone on Bone” joint. Fibromyalgia, etc…because from that point on all debilitation and pain will be blamed on the progression the disease and standard treatment, the rest of the population benefits from, is ignored. It is assumed that a diagnosis listed above prevents the occurrence or any other neuro-musculoskeletal cause of symptoms.

Once a diagnosis is made, correct or incorrect, treatment is focused on this diagnosis with other, simpler solutions, ignored.

Restoration of function following illness or injury is imperative.  This includes the physical consequences as a result of cancer treatment, dialysis, disease and surgery.  Please, give Performance Phyx a try!

Pain and performance problems frequently occur during vigorous exercise routines.

These problems, most often, can be resolved without interrupting, stopping or modifying the gym routine.

  • Many people think that painful movement is a consequence of aging or repetitive strain.  This is a Myth .
  • People think pain can be resolved with stretching more, icing more, doing more or taking a break from the gym.  Wrong!
  • People think that because a doctor or image led to a diagnosis of a bulging disc, arthritis, and even “bone on bone” joint changes, that pain and loss of the ability to do an activity is inevitable.     In most cases this is just not true.
  • People believe that following a sports injury, even that old high school football injury, that pain is an inevitable part of daily life.

It doesn’t have to be that way!

Don’t Quit:

BodyPhyx

To increase movement in the nervous system and correct alignment.  Scientifically proven to successfully treat shoulder pain.

Alignment Matters!

Just think about it.

Out of Alignment    vs Correct Alignment

How far would you drive a car that had something under the hood “banging”?  Or run an electric food mixer with the beaters bumping into each other? Either of these could cause significant problems.  To correct the problems would you grease the parts under the hood? Grease the beaters? Would you run a special formulas through the engine?   Or over the beaters? Or store the car in a very warm garage and let it rest awhile?

No!

You would simply correct the alignment of the beaters to prevent them from bumping into each other.  And, you would probably have a mechanic correct the alignment problem under the hood of the car.

Our body is a mechanical structure with a specific alignment.  Correcting alignment and monitoring its’ effect on the problem In the optimal first form of treatment of pain, loss of function, arthritis, decreased performance at the gym or on the golf course, even pain sitting at the computer.

Much too often the first form of treatment is medicine, injections and in many cases, surgery.  It is surprising how often these treatments are accepted as the only options. Alignment is never even considered as the potential cause.
